CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - The Champlin Foundation is awarding $18 million in grants to Rhode Island nonprofits, including a theater, community organizations and mental health providers.

The Cranston-based foundation announced the grants, which will go to 188 different organizations in the state, on Tuesday.

“At a time when their services are in greater demand than ever before, so many essential charities have stepped up, their leadership thinking innovatively about how to adjust programming and deliver support,” said Nina Stack, executive director of the foundation, in a statement.



Among the grant recipients is CODAC Behavioral Healthcare, which won $225,000 for a mobile medical unit.

The Champlin Foundation was created in 1932.
