FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - A woman accused of killing her boyfriend in an Apache Junction parking lot last year has accepted a plea arrangement.
Prosecutors say 23-year-old Dalia Villalobos originally was charged with second-degree murder and now has agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter.
The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that Villalobos could be facing up to a 12½-year prison term when she is sentenced on March 2 in Pinal County Superior Court.
Villalobos was arrested last Feb. 20 after she allegedly struck her boyfriend, Oscar Coronado, with her vehicle outside a Walmart store in Apache Junction.
Coronado died later that evening at a hospital.
According to a probable-cause statement by Apache Junction police, Villalobos told investigators her relationship with the victim had been physically and mentally abusive.
Villalobos initially told police she accidentally hit Coronado with her car.
Police say she changed the story to say she was angry at the victim for all the alleged abuse and intentionally ran him over.
