RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man convicted of murder was captured early Wednesday morning after he removed his electronic monitoring device, according to state police.
William Wheelock, 55, was located in a residence in Rutland and transported to Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility. Authorities began searching for Wheelock after he cut off and discarded his monitoring device on Feb. 5.
Wheelock was convicted of murder in the 1987 death of James Brillon and was sentenced to serve 21 to 99 years in prison. He has been released and returned to jail repeatedly since 2002, according to the state Department of Corrections.
Wheelock was released on furlough on Jan. 28, the Brattleboro Reformer reported. He was living in transitional housing in Bellow Falls at the time he absconded.
