WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A former Florida police officer is charged with the fatal shooting of a man during a dispute outside a bar, sheriff’s investigators said.
The shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the Blue Boar Tavern in West Palm Beach.
Jason Lamar Gilbert, 42, shot the Aaron Small and then fled, the Palm Beach Post reported. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s investigators declined to identify the victim, citing Marsy’s Law, but an assistant state attorney identified him in court.
Small died at the hospital on Sunday, the newspaper reported.
Gilbert is a former Riviera Beach police officer, who left the force in 2007. A public defender told the judge during a bond hearing that Gilbert works as a security guard.
Officials haven’t said what the men were fighting about at the bar. No additional details were released.
Gilbert is charged with homicide. A judge ordered him held without bond.
