VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - The Clark County medical examiner has identified a person who police say broke into a house and was fatally shot by a homeowner Thursday as a 19-year-old Vancouver man.

Franson Take was killed by a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the medical examiner’s office.

An initial police bulletin said the homeowner told said an unknown person broke into his home and that he confronted the intruder inside and shot him, The Columbian reported.

Investigation since indicates the teen kicked open a rear door of the residence, Vancouver police said.

The homeowner told police that Take charged at him. Take fled out the door after being shot and collapsed, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further information about the incident has not been released, including whether Take was armed. The homeowner and his family were uninjured, police said.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said Wednesday that police are not planning to release anything further about the shooting, including the homeowner’s identity.

“Based on some safety concerns for the homeowners and the unknown factors why their home was broken into with such force, we are not releasing their information,” Kapp wrote.

Kapp said the investigative reports will be forwarded to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
