NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A Massachusetts man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-boyfriend in Connecticut pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges.
Jeffrey Stovall Jr., 22, of Worcester, Massachusetts, entered the plea Monday.
Stovall stabbed Jason Beck, 33, with a knife multiple times on the night of Jan. 19 in Norwich, police said. Beck was taken to Backus Hospital and was pronounced dead.
According to police, Beck was heard on the 911 dispatch call pleading for his life as he said he was being stabbed by Beck, the Norwich Bulletin reported.
Stovall was also charged with violating a protective order issued in August preventing him from having contact with Beck. The order came after an argument between the men while they were living in Oakville led to Stovall’s arrest.
The men continued to meet at Beck’s new apartment in Norwich despite the order, according to police. Stovall is also charged with failing to appear in court related to previous assault charges.
Police said Stovall told them the two men began arguing after he accused Beck of not helping him enough with his ongoing court case, and that he stabbed Beck.
The Associated Press left a message Wednesday with Stovall’s public defender.
Stovall’s case was continued until March 5.
