WAKE FOREST, N.C. (AP) - Warrants have been obtained for a suspect accused of stabbing three people, killing one of them, officials said Wednesday.
Wake Forest police obtained warrants on Wednesday for Rebecca Ashley Nelson, 38, of Raleigh, who was hospitalized, the town said in a news release.
Police identified the stabbing victims as Suzanne Nelson, Susan Carter and Terry Carter. Their ages weren’t listed. All three were taken to a local hospital where police say Terry Carter died from his injuries. There was no word Wednesday evening on the condition of Suzanne Nelson and Susan Carter, and there was no immediate word on the relationship between the four people.
Shortly after the stabbing was reported, and about 40 miles (64 kilometers) away, a woman covered in blood entered a convenience store. She told responding Orange County deputies that she had been stabbed and that Wake Forest police were looking for her in relation to a domestic situation, a sheriff’s statement said.
But deputies determined the woman wasn’t injured and the blood wasn’t hers, news outlets reported.
“It is our belief that this woman is a material witness if not a participant of a crime that occurred in Wake Forest,” the sheriff’s statement said.
