RENO, Nev. (AP) - A man was sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting a Bureau of Indian Affairs officer in Owyhee with a screwdriver.

Richard Frank Roa Jr., 36, previously pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer in the November 2017 attack.

Authorities say the assault occurred after Roa’s father told police his son was causing a disturbance and damaging a vehicle at his home.

The officer was assaulted while he was trying to arrest Roa, officials said.
