CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire will no longer ask aspiring lawyers about their mental health history.
The state Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness said Friday that it will no longer include questions on its bar application about mental health diagnosis or treatment.
Officials said a diagnosis does not equate to misconduct that reflects on an applicant’s character or ability to practice law, and that such questions discouraged law students from seeking help.
Officials said at least a dozen other jurisdictions have stopped asking similar questions.
