RADCLIFF, Ky. (AP) - Two Kentucky police officers have returned to duty after a shooting in January that injured one person.
Officers Roger D. Beets III and Jonah L. Everage of the Radcliff Police Department fired at Joseph R. Godsey, 34, while responding to an armed robbery, local news outlets reported.
Police say they found Godsey with a knife in the parking lot of an apartment building. He didn’t obey repeated commands to put down the knife and then charged toward the officers, who fired and hit him, Kentucky State Police Trooper Scotty Sharp previously said.
Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross said Beets, a two-year veteran, and Everage, a one-year member, returned to duty last week, The News-Enterprise reported.
Cross said the internal investigation by the department is almost finished. He also said he’s “confident” Beets and Everage did nothing wrong and that both officers handled the situation properly.
Kentucky State Police spokesman Sgt. Josh Lawson said he expects the investigation to be complete in two months.
Godsey was issued an arrest citation and charged with assault. He hasn’t been booked into the Hardin County Detention Center, the news paper reported. It’s unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
