American parents have blindly trusted the government with their children’s education for too long. That was until the pandemic lockdown made us a nation of homeschoolers. Parents began opening up textbooks to find them rife with subversive and often anti-American content. They quickly discovered that many school boards actively restrict teaching materials.

One Tennessee school board even made parents sign a waiver declaring that they wouldn’t eavesdrop on their child’s online classes. Now an army of mothers is demanding change. On Election Day, they will be given a rare chance to take back local control of their children’s education.

With the announcement of the new White House educational initiative, “The 1776 Commission,” President Trump drew attention to the issue of subversive materials like the 1619 Project and Black Lives Matter curricula that are becoming entrenched in K-12 curriculum. However, this crisis in education began decades ago and can be directly linked to the chaos, anarchy and racial tension that we have seen across the country. Young Americans are burning our flag, pulling down our statues, destroying property and physically attacking people because they were taught to hate everything we hold dear.

Despite the polarizing political environment that we find ourselves in, most Americans can agree that educating the next generation has always been the key to America’s greatness. For good reason, Americans have traditionally taken pride in their public schools. But it has been a while since America’s students have performed at the level that we had become accustomed to in previous generations. While there are many reasons for this decline, it is clear that the content of what is being taught in our public schools should at the very least be thoroughly examined.

A national movement to standardize core curriculum gained support in the 1990s and by 2010, a set of educational standards known as “Common Core” was adopted by 47 states. Common Core is an educational initiative that lays out a set of standards that all K–12 students throughout the United States should be taught in English, language arts and mathematics. While that may not sound so threatening, with the establishment of Common Core, local control over the content of educational instruction was eliminated and handed over to Washington, D.C.,  bureaucrats.  



While the overall standards included in Common Core are made available to the public, the actual curriculum and textbooks that are used in schools are not. Textbooks that are used in taxpayer-funded public schools are concealed in the overwhelming majority of school districts from the same taxpayers who pay for them.

The Trump administration has required that recipients of foreign aid for educational projects worldwide make their educational material publicly available. This came to fruition after anti-American content was found in Palestinian textbooks. Surely what the State Department now requires abroad should be what we demand at home.

That is why Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, a Christian educational non-profit launched a national campaign aimed at elected officials, concerned parents and especially school board members to demand the most elementary thing: transparency in textbooks. With most school board members up for reelection this year, parents will have a rare opportunity to have their voices heard at the ballot. We the people, demand greater transparency in order to see what the bureaucrats are peddling in our children’s schools.
