Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has another warning for voters as the 2020 U.S. presidential election nears: Democratic nominee Joseph R. Biden “reveals himself as a marionette maneuvered by the elites, a puppet in the hands of people thirsting for power and ready to do anything to expand it.”

The Catholic Church’s former Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S. was asked by the Italian daily Il Giornale why he is so outspoken in his support for President Trump when the conversation turned to Mr. Biden’s campaign.

He previously discussed a spiritual battle between “the children of light and the children of darkness” and a “fight against the demonic forces of the deep state and against the New World Order.”

“The highest levels of the church have desired to make a radical — and in my opinion unfortunate — choice, preferring to follow the mainstream thought of environmentalism, immigrationism and the LGBT ideology, rather than courageously standing up against them and faithfully proclaiming the salvific Truth announced by Our Lord,” the archbishop said in an interview translated by Life Site News Thursday.

Archbishop Viganò warned that Mr. Biden, a Catholic, would serve “ultra-progressive associations” financed by billionaire George Soros and supported by the “Deep Church” if elected.

“If Trump loses the presidential elections […] the dictatorship of the New World Order, which has already won [Pope Francis] over to its cause, will have an ally in the new American president,” he continued. “Joe Biden does not have his own identity: He is only the expression of a power that does not dare reveal itself for what it truly is and that is hiding itself behind a person who is totally incapable of holding the office of president of the United States.”

The religious leader then told reporter Francesco Boezi that he sees the “destiny of the world is being played out at this hour precisely on the American front.”

“Biden reveals himself as a marionette maneuvered by the elites, a puppet in the hands of people thirsting for power and ready to do anything to expand it,” the archbishop said. “We would find ourselves facing an Orwellian dictatorship desired by both the ‘Deep State’ and the ‘Deep Church,’ in which the rights that today are considered fundamental and inalienable would be trampled with the complicity of mainstream media.”
