Ron Rivera is making a change at quarterback.

Washington plans to start Kyle Allen for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams — while benching Dwayne Haskins. The change comes after Haskins has struggled through the first four games of the season, most notably in a Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns in which he tossed three interceptions.

In Washington’s latest game — a 31-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens — Haskins threw for a career-high 314 yards, though Rivera’s praise for the quarterback was lukewarm.

By switching to Allen, Rivera goes to someone who is well versed in offensive coordinator Scott Turner’s offense. Allen, who was acquired in the offseason, started 12 games last year with the Carolina Panthers, Rivera’s last stop.

Alex Smith will also serve as the team’s backup — meaning Haskins could be inactive on Sunday.
