Whoopi Golberg and the ladies of ABC’s “The View” were livid at President Trump on Monday in response to a story about his income tax payments over the years.

The celebrity screamed at the camera after talking about The New York Times’ reporting on Mr. Trump’s finances; the newspaper claims he paid $750 in 2016 and the same amount in 2017.

“All I can think of his my mother trying desperately every year to pay her taxes to the IRS — and the IRS coming after my mother because maybe she wasn’t able to pay all of it but she could pay some of it,” Ms. Goldberg said. “And how they harassed her.”

Alan Garten, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, noted in the newspaper’s piece that Mr. Trump has paid “tens-of-millions of dollars in personal taxes to the federal government, including paying millions in personal taxes since announcing his candidacy in 2015.”

“With the term ‘personal taxes,’ however, Mr. Garten appears to be conflating income taxes with other federal taxes Mr. Trump has paid — Social Security, Medicare and taxes for his household employees,” the Times responded.

Mr. Trump called the story “a total fake” Sunday and said all will “be revealed” after protracted negotiations with the IRS end.

“When you are under audit, you just don’t release them,” he said.

The president’s explanation and the various tax-filing rules for individuals and large businesses failed to placate Ms. Goldberg.

“I don’t get when you suddenly look and people can’t send their kids to camp or people can’t buy little bits of things or can’t go on vacation because the tax laws are such that they can’t write anything off,” Ms. Goldberg continued. “I don’t understand how that works. Why are we having to pay, because I work every day like a whole bunch of people. Why is it all on us to do this? Where is he? How dare you! How dare you!”

“He’s a crook,” replied co-host Joy Behar as the show cut to a commercial.
