The historically low temperatures experienced in Texas and the resulting collapse of wind power because turbines meant to combat global warming froze is but the latest example of Democrats’ topsy-turvy approach to solving problems.

Reduce carbon emissions from burning fossil fuels? The Democrats’ solution is to kill the Keystone pipeline so that the same oil will be transported by train or truck, creating carbon emissions to transport it.

School shootings? Remove police officers from schools, as recently happened in Los Angeles, and legalize marijuana, which has been traced to many school shooting rampages and its psychotic effects.

Police misconduct? Defund the police, reducing training and discouraging anyone from becoming a police officer, leading to spectacular spurts in murders, rapes and burglaries, hitting Blacks the hardest.

Gun violence? Ban so-called assault rifles, even though only 4% of murders are by any kind of rifle, as opposed to hand guns and other types of firearms.

Confronting racism? Brand Whites guilty of “systemic racism” and “White privilege,” thus unfairly besmirching the vast majority of Americans, even though this country twice elected a black president.

Poverty? Impose a minimum wage of $15, even in states with low living costs, putting 1.4 million workers out of jobs, as estimated by the Congressional Budget Office.

COVID-19 infections? Shut down in-school learning so tens of millions of children suffer without an adequate education or access to subsidized meals, hurting Black and Hispanic kids the most.

Crime on the streets? Impose restrictions on use of facial recognition technology to catch criminals.

Illegal immigration? Stop construction of a wall along the southern border.

Repeat criminal offenders? Ban law enforcement from informing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when violent criminals are released from jail to prevent ICE from deporting them.

Practice tolerance? Ban conservatives from speaking on college campuses and, in the name of preventing “harm,” create “safe spaces” to block out opposing views.

Tax the rich? As it is, the top 3% of U.S. taxpayers pay the majority of U.S. income taxes.

Democrats are most adept at coming up with solutions to problems that do not exist. Global surface temperatures on average have inched up by about two degrees since the pre-industrial period of 1880 to 1900, but how much of that is due to human activity creating carbon emissions is not known.

In fact, carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption in the U.S. have been declining dramatically since 2008 and account for only 15% of worldwide emissions, China is the biggest emitter, accounting for 28% of worldwide emissions, and its emissions are steadily rising.

Even if the U.S. eliminated all carbon emissions from cars, planes, furnaces, manufacturing plants, ships and trains, the vast majority of carbon emissions would continue. So President Biden’s entire green makeover of the economy, with its disastrous effect on jobs, is pointless.

On top of that, per a New York Times story, transitioning to electric vehicles will require an estimated 25% increase in generation of electricity.

“To handle that, utilities will likely need to build a lot of new power plants and upgrade their transmission networks,” the Jan. 29 story said.

That will create more emissions as the generating plants come online and raise prices for electricity, hitting the poor the hardest. Moreover, higher power costs for businesses and especially factories will create huge incentives for them to relocate to other nations to cut their electricity bills and hire workers overseas.

The plunging temperatures in Texas and much of the South is the latest example of Democrats’ topsy-turvy view of the world. Just as Texans were being devastated by the state’s coldest temperatures since 1903, billionaire Bill Gates, promoting his new book, “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster,” called on the U.S. and other wealthy countries to give up eating beef entirely and switch to synthetic alternatives due to climate change.

“I do think all rich countries should move to 100 percent synthetic beef,” Mr. Gates said in an interview as half of the state’s wind turbines froze, causing wind’s share of electricity to plunge from 42% to almost nothing.

But for the rest of us who still like our steak, the Texas disaster demonstrates that Mr. Biden’s entire green initiative — like so many Democrats’ solutions — is a mindless PR stunt and a cruel joke that will hurt all of us, especially the impoverished.
