History can be ugly, but it serves an important purpose,  so we shouldn’t try to “cancel” the facts (“Erasure of Trump files enters new dominion,” page 1, Aug. 10).

Former President Donald Trump’s impeachments will go down in history as an important milestone for the U.S.

These impeachments were conducted by the most corrupt Congress to date. The first, the Russia-collusion impeachment, was based on a known-to-be-false accusation orchestrated by a crooked Democratic Party.

The Democrats conspired to create the lie and they then marched in lockstep to undermine a duly elected president. To the last man and woman, they perjured themselves to present a lie to the American people.

The second impeachment regarded then-Vice President Joe Biden’s role in extorting bribes from Ukraine in exchange for U.S. foreign aid. Taking bribes is specifically called out as an impeachable offense, but not for the person who exposes it.

Mr. Biden openly bragged about his role in the scandal. Rather than filing criminal charges against the true rats, corrupt Congress pursued Mr. Trump for shining a spotlight on the malfeasance that occurred.

These events have been a terrible turning point for the country. Let us pray we can recover from them.
