A man in Dalton, Georgia, was burned on more than 75% of his body Wednesday after he tried to open a bag of chips with a lighter.

The 75-year-old man, unnamed by officials, could not open a bag of chips with his hands, and resorted to using a lighter, Dalton Communications Director Bruce Frazier told the New York Post.

The man was sitting in a recliner when he inadvertently started the fire, Mr. Frazier told the Post.

Maintenance workers at the apartment complex where the man lives were able to contain the fire to the recliner using a hose until firefighters arrived about three minutes later, according to WTVC-TV.

The fire caused third-degree burns, and the man was taken to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee for treatment before eventually ending up at a burn center, according to WTVC-TV.
