A man swimming in the unattended Crystal Lake in Manchester, New Hampshire, drowned Friday.

The victim, Amin Taheri, 33, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, was swimming at 6:57 p.m. when witnesses noticed he had gone under. Bystanders then tried to save him.

After life-saving measures, Mr. Taheri was pronounced dead at the hospital, New Hampshire State Police said in a news release on Facebook.

Police didn’t say what could have caused Mr. Taheri to drown, but added the death didn’t appear suspicious and that an investigation continues.

No lifeguards are posted at Crystal Lake Park, according to the Manchester city website.
