A German tourist died after being bitten by a cobra during a snake-charming show at a hotel along the Red Sea in Egypt, multiple news outlets report.

The 57-year-old man was vacationing with two relatives in the city of Hurghada, about 280 miles south of Cairo, when a snake charmer allowed a cobra to crawl into his pants, biting his leg.

After showing signs of poisoning, the man was resuscitated on the scene before being rushed to a hospital, where he died.

German police and prosecutors have launched an investigation into his death and are awaiting toxicology results.

Egyptian authorities said they were unaware of the incident.
