D.C. police said an officer died early Monday after suffering a gunshot wound inside a Northwest police station.

Metropolitan Police said the officer, whose identity was not divulged, was injured just after 5 a.m. Monday at the Second District Station in the 3300 block of Idaho Avenue NW.

The officer was rushed to a hospital, where the officer died.



Police opened an internal affairs investigation into the shooting, but preliminarily, the department said “nothing currently indicates that another party was involved.”
