At least two players in the Nationals’ organization are headed to Philadelphia for this month’s All-Star festivities.
Prospects Eli Willits and Miguel Sime Jr. will represent Washington at the All-Star Futures Game, MLB officials announced Wednesday.
The league selected 50 prospects who will face off in the July 12 exhibition, the first event in the week’s All-Star lineup.
Willits, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2025 and the top prospect in Washington’s farm system, has enjoyed an electric start to his first full season as a professional. The 18-year-old infielder is the only player in the minors with 10 homers, 35 stolen bases and 65 runs scored.
His promising start led to an early promotion from Single-A Fredericksburg to High-A Wilmington. Willits ranks as the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com.
Sime, Willits’ teammate in Wilmington, will also join the All-Star Futures lineup. The right-handed pitcher leads all of the minors with 16.69 strikeouts per nine innings.
