No bureaucrat has caused more harm to the American people than Dr. Anthony Fauci, formerly director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), who led the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic during the Biden administration.

Sen. Roger Marshall, Kansas Republican and one of four physicians in Congress, has urged the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to investigate Dr. Fauci’s role in the alleged COVID-19 coverup. One of the other physicians in Congress, Sen. Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, spent the Biden years demanding Dr. Fauci’s firing.

Mr. Marshall’s move is based in part on documents released on June 19 by outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. They show that former intelligence officials shielded Dr. Fauci from whistleblower complaints that he had repeatedly lied to Congress about the origins of COVID-19 and his department’s support for China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, likely source of the virus.

Over the course of a decade, the National Institutes of Health (the NIAID parent body) provided millions of dollars to the Wuhan Institute, through grants to a company called EcoHealth.

To this day, Dr. Fauci insists that COVID-19 originated in bats sold at a wet market in Wuhan, not at the Wuhan Institute, which was doing gain-of-function research to develop super-viruses.

Of course, it is just a coincidence that among the first COVID-19 victims were workers at the institute, which was supported by Dr. Fauci.

No wonder he’s gone bats on the theory of the virus’ origins.

It is also not surprising that, as he was leaving office, President Joe Biden granted Dr. Fauci a pardon for anything he may have done dating back to 2014. Though there are doubts about the pardon’s validity.

It is difficult to fully assess the impact of COVID-19. In America, 1.2 million died. The economy suffered trillions in lost productivity. Kindergarten children were forced to wear face masks on the playground and elderly nursing home patients died alone, denied the comfort of their family. Workers had to be vaccinated or lose their jobs.

As Mr. Biden’s chief medical adviser and head of NIAID head (too bad he couldn’t diagnose age-associated memory loss), Dr. Fauci helped to shape these draconian policies.

When questioned at a congressional hearing in 2022, Dr. Fauci could be heard to mutter that Sen. Marshall was a “moron.” The doctor charged that critics were responsible for the death threats he was receiving at the time.

There is a lot for a special counsel to investigate. Since Dr. Fauci is 85 years old, time is wasting.
