Cher responded with a statement Tuesday after actor Michael Douglas criticized her 1988 Oscar win for “Moonstruck” during a recent television appearance.

During the 60th Academy Awards in April 1988, Cher won the Oscar for Best Actress over Mr. Douglas’ co-star at the time, Glenn Close, whom he believes should have won the award for “Fatal Attraction.”

Mr. Douglas and Ms. Close appeared together recently on “The Graham Norton Show,” where Mr. Douglas recounted the story of Cher’s win.

“Oh wow,” Mr. Norton replied.

“I know, that’s what we all said,” Mr. Douglas, 82, told the host. Mr. Douglas was told to “be kind” by Ms. Close, who was sitting next to him.

A representative for Cher relayed a brief statement to Entertainment Weekly, saying, “Cher adores Michael Douglas.”

Mr. Douglas won the Oscar for Best Actor that same year for his role in “Wall Street.”
