Florida Republicans’ redistricting gambit yielded disappointing results for the GOP on Tuesday.

Democratic Reps. Jared Moskowitz and Kathy Castor won reelection Tuesday despite Republicans redrawing their districts to try and defeat them.

Mr. Moskowitz defeated Republican Scott Singer in one of the redrawn districts. Ms. Castor defeated Republican Mike Beltran, even though her district’s boundaries were stretched into more rural and conservative areas to the west of Tampa.

Mr. Moskowitz is a moderate in his caucus who describes himself as a “DeSantis Democrat” due to his prior service in Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration.

Mr. DeSantis, a Republican, signed into law in May a redrawn congressional map favoring Republicans in four districts.

Mr. Moskowitz was drawn out of his previous district, forcing him to compete in the 25th, stretching from Palm Beach County to Miami-Dade County.

“Voters want leaders who think for themselves, stand up to extremes, and deliver results. This district was redrawn to defeat me. Voters had other plans,” Mr. Moskowitz said in a victory statement.

Democrat Pia Dandiya also won in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, defeating Republican Casey Askar.

The district’s current representative, Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel, opted out of a reelection campaign after Florida redrew its map.
