Metallica frontman James Hetfield told fans at a Las Vegas concert that the band is not there to push an agenda, Billboard reports.

Mr. Hetfield, the band’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, made the remarks Oct. 10 during the group’s residency at Sphere, after thanking fans who traveled to see the show.

He said Metallica is not there “like some other entertainers” to influence the audience, using an expletive to describe what those entertainers bring, but he did not name anyone.

He said the band wants fans to forget “all the outside [expletive]” and that “Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music.”

Metallica, formed in Los Angeles in 1981, has four members: Mr. Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo.

Their “Life Burns Faster” residency began in October, making Metallica the first heavy metal act to headline Sphere, and runs through March 2027.

Separately, the band’s “ReLoad” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart after an expanded reissue, the band’s sixth leader in the ranking.
