“Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston is questioning what could have happened had he met up with costar RJ Mitte before the 34-year-old’s suicide on Oct. 12.

During an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday, Mr. Cranston discussed Mitte’s death.

“It’s a shame,” Mr. Cranston, 70, said. “It threw me for a loop for several days. I didn’t understand it. He and I were trying to find out where we were — I was in New York, he was in Texas, I was coming to L.A. And we were trying to figure out [where we could meet].”

Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, played Mr. Cranston’s son on “Breaking Bad,” the hit AMC show that ran from 2008 to 2013.

“I just wonder if he wanted to talk to me about something,” Mr. Cranston added in the interview. “It’s like, ‘Oh God.’ Thirty-four years old.”

Mr. Cranston previously shared a statement on Oct. 12 mourning the actor.

“I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight,” he said. “RJ Mitte, my sweet son on ‘Breaking Bad,’ has died. I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm.”
