The new superhero — or in this case, supervillain — offering from DC Studios is set to face a tight battle at the box office this weekend with the success of the documentary “You Can See Everything,” which follows Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes before her prison sentence.

“Clayface” opened in previews Thursday and everywhere on Friday and is expected to garner an opening weekend of $25 million to $30 million. But now, A24’s surprise documentary hit may be closing in on that figure, with $20 million to $25 million, as it expands into more theaters this weekend, Variety reports.

DC’s R-rated “Clayface” follows the story of the Batman villain, a lesser-known character to wider audiences. The film is the third release in James Gunn’s new DC Universe, after he was hired by Warner Bros. to resurrect the franchise in 2022.

Earlier this year, DC suffered a massive box-office bust with “Supergirl,” which didn’t reach the financial highs of its predecessor, 2025’s “Superman.” “Supergirl” reportedly cost $170 million to $186 million to produce and earned $126.4 million globally. “Superman,” on the other hand, soared past that tally with around $618 million.
