The administration announced that construction on President Trump’s triumphal arch in Memorial Circle in Arlington could begin as soon as Nov. 5.

The National Capital Planning Commission is slated to meet that day to give final approval to the location and building plans for the 250-foot arch. If approval is forthcoming, the National Park Service would then publish a final notice as early as that same day.

“In the event the NCPC approves the proposal at the November 5 meeting and the Department of Interior thereafter issues a final decision authorizing construction of the proposal, construction or demolition in preparation for construction of an arch on Memorial Circle could commence immediately upon the National Park Service (’NPS’) publishing a notice of that authorization on its Planning, Environment and Public Comment website,” the Department of Justice told a federal judge in a filing late Wednesday.

“NPS may publish such notice as early as November 5, 2026, and construction could commence as early as November 5, 2026,” the Justice Department continued.

The arch is slated for the traffic island between Memorial Bridge and Arlington National Cemetery.

Final plans for the arch were revealed earlier this week. The structure would have a winged statue holding an eternal flame torch sitting atop the middle. It would be flanked by two eagles.
