Staffers for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth broke a globe that had been used by Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower during World War II.
Mr. Hegseth wanted the historical artifact, which is housed inside the Pentagon, moved to his office. Rather than rely on trained curators to move the globe, the Pentagon staffers opted to carry it themselves. However, they dropped it, with the impact creating a gash several inches wide and cracking its shell, according to The Washington Post.
“They broke Eisenhower’s globe because they didn’t want to wait for a team of specialist historians to move it,” defense analyst John Ridge said. “I can’t think of a more apt metaphor for Pete Hegseth’s [Department of Defense].”

The Army acknowledged that the globe was damaged earlier this year.
“Accidents happen, and we are grateful no one was harmed. The globe is being repaired,” the Pentagon said.
