Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin on Thursday called Elon Musk an “immigrant” who “never really inhaled the real values of our country.”
The Maryland lawmaker took his shot at the trillionaire while previewing potential probes into his conduct if Democrats take the House.
Mr. Raskin is the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.

In response to Politico’s reporting on congressional Democrats’ desire to target Mr. Musk with subpoenas if they win the majority on Nov. 3, he recently said on social media, “Live by the sword, die by the sword. Those who pick fights with me should understand that I will find out who is really pulling the strings and come for them, not just their puppets.”
Speaking on MS NOW, Mr. Raskin shot back at Mr. Musk, accusing the South African-born tycoon, who owns X and Tesla, of not being fully assimilated into American culture.
“He’s part of the Trump regime that has denounced immigrants and reviled immigrants and so on. Well, he’s an immigrant … who never really inhaled the real values of our country.”
Mr. Raskin continued, “The reason why they’ve redesigned the whole asylum regime around him is because they want White Afrikaners, who are basically unreconstructed racists, to come over to our country. Those are the only people getting in under asylum. And that’s obviously inspired by Elon Musk. He’s got no real interest in the values of our country.”
During President Trump’s second term, the administration, generally restrictive on refugees, has allowed Afrikaners, a White ethnic minority in South Africa, to settle in America to flee “government-sponsored race-based discrimination.”
If Democrats gain the majority, Mr. Raskin and fellow House Judiciary Committee Democrats would have the power to subpoena Mr. Musk.
Asked about that possibility, Mr. Raskin did not rule it out.
“Donald Trump cannot wave some sort of magic wand and say that nobody he’s ever talked to can be subpoenaed to come before Congress,” he said.
