Madison Square Garden tricked its employees during a digital security training with a fake email that promised a free New York Knicks championship ring.
Sources tell TMZ that James Dolan, the CEO of MSG and owner of the Knicks, had no part in the September email training, the details of which are just coming to light.
The goal of the training was to warn employees of the dangers of phishing, the practice of fraudulently sending emails that are purportedly from established companies.

Typically, with a phishing scheme, victims give up valuable information such as passwords and credit card numbers.
“Congratulations, your Employee Championship Ring is here,” the email read.
“[Employee name], this one is on the house,” the email continued. “MSG is issuing a complimentary employee championship ring. The same jeweler, the same craftsmanship, personalized with your name. No cost to you. There are two designs to choose from: Championship Gold and Garden Classic. Reserve the one you want below.”
The Knicks won the NBA championship on June 13, their first since 1973.
