The U.S. military has deployed short-range air defense systems around President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command confirmed last week’s deployment, saying it was done at the request of the U.S. Secret Service.

The Humvee-mounted Avenger short-range air defense system is designed to protect ground forces and critical assets from low-altitude aerial threats.

The Pentagon has not disclosed the deployment’s cost or whether any particular threat prompted the decision, according to Military.com.

The Secret Service already instituted a permanent no-fly zone and year-round flight restrictions around the president’s estate in Palm Beach, Florida. It covers a 1-nautical-mile radius and extends up to 2,000 feet above ground level, regardless of whether Mr. Trump is in its radius.
