Mr. Cohen, known for satirical characters such as Borat and Ali G, said in podcast comments Wednesday that Mr. Trump has more depth than liberals are willing to admit.
“I mean, how has he survived a second term? People underestimated him,” Mr. Cohen said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to promote “Ali G: Who Iz I?,” his new mockumentary featuring his alter ego. “We were too easy to dismiss him as a nincompoop. There are elements of brilliance to him, otherwise. And that explains his appeal with the fact that he’s there for a second term, the fact that he’s transforming this country. I won’t say positively or negatively.”
Mr. Cohen first met Mr. Trump while filming “Da Ali G Show” in 2003. Mr. Cohen’s Ali G, a white man inspired by Black British culture, interviewed the business magnate for a segment on the HBO show.
