President Trump said Tuesday that the federal government will soon prohibit using the terms AI or artificial intelligence to describe technology that enables machines to perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence.

At a recent White House tech summit, Mr. Trump met with industry leaders and described the term as “very ineloquent” and “inaccurate,” choosing instead to rebrand the technology as “super intelligence.”

“When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be,” Mr. Trump said on social media.

“In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, “AI/Artificial Intelligence,” in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy.”

Mr. Trump told the U.N. General Assembly last month that the use of the word “artificial” makes intelligence “sound fake.”

He added, “It is not fake. It’s actually amazing. But we have to be careful. In fact, it is exactly the opposite of what it purports.”
