Left-wing influencer Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit against conservative commentator Scott Jennings for a video clip that insinuates the Twitch streamer supports lynchings.

The lawsuit stems from an August podcast in which Mr. Jennings played a clip of Mr. Piker saying we should go back to a “better time when lynchings were happening.”

Mr. Jennings, a frequent contributor on CNN, held up the clip to warn Black voters about Mr. Piker’s supposed endorsement of the practice.

The lawsuit says the clip showed that Mr. Piker was mocking another person’s argument when shown in proper context and that Mr. Jennings was intentionally slandering Mr. Piker.

“These were not expressions of disagreement with Mr. Piker’s politics,” the lawsuit states. “Nor were they rhetorical characterizations of an admittedly controversial commentator. They were factual assertions about what Mr. Piker had said and advocated in his work. Each statement was demonstrably false.”
