OPINION:
Once again, Loudoun County, Virginia has an opportunity to help set the course for our state and nation.
Approximately five years ago, county parents gained national prominence when they courageously challenged the school board for putting an extreme-left political and social agenda ahead of academic excellence and their children’s well-being. Parents rejected the ludicrous notion that biological males should play women’s sports, share locker rooms and showers and risk bodily harm.
They also rejected candidate Terry McAuliffe’s assertion that parents should have no say in their children’s school curriculum, which almost guaranteed Glenn Youngkin’s election at the state’s 74th governor.
Ironically, Mr. Youngkin won the election, kept campaign promises and cleaned up the mess — only to have Virginia voters snookered by Abigail Spanberger masquerading as a moderate long enough to be elected early this year.
Once in, Ms. Spanberger embraced everything that Loudoun County parents and voters had rejected. She made Virginia a sanctuary state, ended cooperation with federal law enforcement to identify and deport the worst of the worst, leaving gang members, drug traffickers, child molesters and other criminals in our communities to prey on the law-abiding.
She dramatically reduced sentences for robbery and eliminated minimum mandatory sentences.
Ms. Spanberger has also taken steps to enable election fraud by allowing online voting, extending deadlines for mail in ballots and trying to redraw congressional districts to disenfranchise most of the state’s conservative voters.
Fortunately, the illegal plan to redistrict was struck down by the courts.
For now, Virginia is stuck with Ms. Spanberger. However, voters in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, which includes Loudon County, can start to right the wrongs by electing Republican Dave Beckwith as their congressman.
Mr. Beckwith is a retired air force colonel and deputy assistant secretary of defense. More importantly he is an honest, decent and ethical family man who understands the difference between right and wrong. He is committed to a citizen-first approach to government and eliminating the lawlessness, waste and incompetence that has plagued our cities, states and nation whenever Democrats are in power.
He will fight for lower taxes and supports business friendly legislation that will bring many new high paying jobs back to the state.
Mr. Beckwith’s Democratic opponent, meanwhile, shares the same radical secular ideology and beliefs of Ms. Spanberger.
