Russian Security Council official Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday threatened to attack Germany’s military production facilities that support Ukraine and said other sites in Berlin could be attacked as well.
Mr. Medvedev, a former Russian president and the Security Council’s deputy chairman, posted the warning on Telegram after Germany said the Kremlin was behind an Aug. 4 drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport.
“Berlin has accused Russia of an unproven attack on Leipzig Airport,” he posted. “Given the neo-Nazi, rapidly Russophobic policies of the current German leadership, a fabricated act of sabotage is the weakest form of punishment for their sins.”
Mr. Medvedev said Germany deserves a “direct strike” on factories supplying arms and munitions to Ukraine.
“And quite possibly, several other locations in Berlin as well,” he posted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned international airlines and insurers that Russian airspace is becoming dangerous because of the growing number of Ukrainian drone operations against Russia’s infrastructure.
Mr. Medvedev said Russian President Vladimir Putin has characterized the warnings as an attempt by Kyiv’s government to engage in state-sponsored terrorism.
“They [Kremlin officials] don’t negotiate with terrorists and will respond to their actions with retaliation,” he posted on Telegram. “And every terror has sponsors. At the moment, these are the heads of Western countries, primarily European ones.”
