House Democrats are sending a four-member delegation to Dallas next week to provide counterprogramming to Republicans’ midterm convention.
Reps. Robert Garcia of California, the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, Jason Crow of Colorado, Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania and Sydney Kamlager-Dove of California will highlight Democratic policies to lower the cost of living and combat what they deem “falsehoods and extremism” spread by Republicans, said House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
The Republican Party is holding a first-ever midterm convention in Dallas on Wednesday and Thursday to highlight GOP candidates and boost their message. President Trump is slated to deliver the keynote speech Thursday night.
The four Democrats headed to Dallas represent different ideologies in the conference and different policy specialties. For example, Mr. Crow, a former Army Ranger, sits on the Armed Services Committee and has led Democrats’ opposition to the Iran war.
Mr. Jeffries said the delegation will partner with Democratic colleagues from the Dallas area and local community leaders to engage with everyday Americans.
“Americans are drowning in the failed Republican economy,” Mr. Jeffries said in a statement. “Rather than taking a single step to lower costs, MAGA extremists are partying with their super-rich donors in Dallas. House Democrats remain focused on fighting for an affordable America, ending the cost of living crisis, making healthcare affordable for every single American and holding the crooks accountable.”
He said the House Democrats in Dallas will make sure swing-seat Republicans cannot “hide from their record of raising costs on working families, gutting Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaire donors and supporting a reckless war of choice in Iran.”
