President Trump plans to spend up to $500 million from his political action committee to boost Republican candidates in midterm elections.
His MAGA Inc. super PAC has a $1 billion war chest and will pump between $400 million and $500 million into GOP campaigns, the president said.
“I’m going to spend whatever amount of money necessary to try to help us,” Mr. Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “This is money from MAGA Inc. This is money that I control.”
He said the money is going to “various campaigns and people that I think are good … people that I think that will win and can win or who are close to winning.”
If Republicans lose the midterms, it will derail Mr. Trump’s agenda, and Democrats will likely flood the White House with subpoenas and investigations.
Still, he said he will likely limit the spending to around $500 million so he can save funds to help Republicans in the 2028 elections, when voters decide who will be the next president.
It’s unclear how much money Mr. Trump has spent from the fund on congressional races. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed concern that the president will keep the money. Since it’s his PAC, Mr. Trump must personally approve the spending and, so far, he’s largely sat on the sidelines.
