President Trump on Wednesday cast the November midterms as a battle for America’s future, saying handing Democrats control of Congress will set the nation back by at least a decade.
Speaking at the first-ever GOP Midterm Convention in Dallas, Mr. Trump closed out the evening sharply outlining how he sees the stakes in November.
“We hand America’s future to the radical-left Democrats and our nation will spend the next decade just getting back on its feet,” Mr. Trump said. “Vote Republican and we will leave the world in our dust for generations to come.”
He echoed remarks from previous speakers, warning that a Democratic victory in November will take America back to the years under President Biden during which inflation reached a 40-year high and illegal immigrants overran the U.S. border.
“Democrats are asking you to vote for their failed far-left agendas that destroyed your finances and delivered you four years of disaster, bedlam and death under Sleepy Joe Biden,” Mr. Trump said. “I’m asking you to let us finish the job we began with the greatest two years in the history of the presidency.”
Mr. Trump is betting that the two-day convention will sell voters on their agenda and boost the profile of candidates in competitive races in states such as Texas and Michigan.
