The Walt Disney Co. is planning to fire thousands of employees, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

Managers are being told to cut expenses by 20%, according to the report, which cited anonymous sources.

The layoffs would be the fourth such Disney move in 2026, with this round affecting the most staffers.

Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro took over the role from longtime CEO Bob Iger in March. Bloomberg’s report said Mr. D’Amaro “aims to reinvest a portion of the savings into film and TV programming, technology and the theme parks and cruise ship businesses.”

The last round of cuts at Disney happened in September, when a few hundred employees were let go.

Dana Walden, Disney’s president and chief creative officer, said of the September layoffs, “I think, like all of our similarly situated competitors, and certainly all of our competitors in the tech industry, there is a need to constantly evaluate how you’re structured.”

As of fiscal 2025, Disney employed 203,280 people.
