NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A man who was the boyfriend of missing North Charleston woman Brandy Hanna has been arrested in connection to Hanna’s disappearance.
North Charleston police officials tell local media that Garland Eugene Lankford was arrested Tuesday and charged with obstruction of justice.
Hanna went missing in May 2005 after getting off from work at a North Charleston restaurant. She was officially declared deceased in August 2013.
According to an affidavit, Lankford provided false and misleading statements regarding Hanna. It says Lankford told investigators he planned to meet Hanna on the night she disappeared, but he ended up working late. However, investigators say time sheets from Lankford’s employer show he got off work at 4 p.m.
Investigators say Lankford also gave misleading information regarding phone calls he made after Hanna’s disappearance.
It’s unclear if Lankford has an attorney.
