NEW YORK (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been convicted in a 2013 shooting at a crowded Manhattan skating rink that left a teenager paralyzed from the waist down.
A jury on Wednesday convicted Cory Dunton of attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
Prosecutors say the Bronx man fired a hail of bullets at the popular Bryant Park skating rink while trying to steal an expensive parka.
The coat’s 20-year-old owner was hit in the leg and hands. A 14-year-old bystander was struck in the back. He later lost the use of his legs.
In a handwritten statement, prosecutors say Dunton denied aiming for the boy, saying he hated himself for “shattering” the young boy’s life.
Dunton is to be sentenced Feb. 17.
