JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia judge has sentenced an HIV-positive man to 10 years in prison for having unprotected sex.
A Clayton County judge imposed the sentence Friday on 42-year-old Craig Lamar Davis of Stone Mountain.
He was convicted on two counts of reckless conduct last month.
WAGA-TV (https://bit.ly/1eehYT9 ) reports that Davis is a former church pastor who had unprotected sex with church members despite being both married and having the virus that causes AIDS.
During a hearing, one of the women told the judge she’s serving a life sentence because of what Davis did.
While a prosecutor described Davis as being unrepentant, the man took the stand in a last-minute plea for mercy. Davis said he believes his actions were wrong.
