LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A man charged in the shooting death of a volunteer firefighter in central Arkansas has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the case.

Prosecutors accused Mark Pruitt of fatally shooting 29-year-old Ronald Jason Adams, who went by his middle name, in January 2016. Adams was shot to death while responding to an emergency call at Pruitt’s home of a man having a seizure.

Court records say Pruitt told his examiners at the state hospital that he had accidentally shot Adams, mistaking him for an intruder.

Little Rock television station KATV reports (https://bit.ly/2mT5pxl ) that Pruitt apologized to Adams’ family in court Thursday. Pruitt had been scheduled to go to trial next month.
