Tempe man facing charges after alleged assault on his wife

PHOENIX (AP) - A Tempe man is facing an attempted second-degree murder charge following an alleged assault on his wife.

Phoenix police say 58-year-old Peter Garduno is accused of attacking his spouse with a kitchen knife after an argument over her debit-card use.

They say Garduno allegedly beat his wife and threatened to kill her while holding an 8-inch knife to her neck.

She eventually ran outside to escape.

Police say Garduno fled the scene and was later arrested at his mother’s house in Tempe.

Garduno’s wife was treated at a hospital for bruising and cuts to her face, neck, shoulders and legs.

Court records show the couple has been married less than a year.

Garduno remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.

It was unclear Monday if he has a lawyer yet.
