Musician Stevie Wonder will play at Capital One Arena in the District’s Chinatown on Nov. 23, one of just five U.S. cities in his “Songs in the Key of Life 50th Anniversary Tour.”
The tour celebrates the 50th anniversary of “Songs in the Key of Life,” a landmark album that won the 1976 Grammy for Album of the Year and features such songs as “Sir Duke,” “Isn’t She Lovely?,” “I Wish,” and “As.”
The 76-year-old Mr. Wonder will be playing the entire album at each show, according to a press release from tour promoter Live Nation.
The tour, which starts in Europe on Oct. 13, starts its U.S. leg on Nov. 19 at Madison Square Garden, followed by a Nov. 21 show at Chicago’s United Center and then the show in the District of Columbia.
The tour caps off with two shows at the Fox Theatre on Dec. 8 and 9 in Mr. Wonder’s native Detroit and a final show at the Intuit Dome near Los Angeles on Dec. 19.
“At a time when the world continues to search for connection, healing and joy, the messages at the heart of Songs in the Key of Life feel as urgent and necessary today as they did in 1976,” Live Nation said in the release.
The album’s songs “remain woven into the emotional fabric of generations around the world, reminding audiences not only where they’ve been, but who they are,” Live Nation added.
