A high school football coach in Connecticut resigned at halftime of a game his team was losing 30-0 after getting into a heated exchange with his players.

Coach Donny Panapada resigned from his job coaching the Stamford High School football team in the middle of the team’s game on the road at Fairfield Warde High School last Friday. The team would go on to lose to Fairfield Warde 42-14.

In a letter to families this week, Stamford High School Principal Matthew Forker said Mr. Panapada “engaged in exchanges with our student athletes and demonstrated poor judgment,” according to Patch.

School officials have not specified what Mr. Panapada said to the students at halftime or how the students responded.

“Confrontational exchanges with student athletes during a game, in front of a large crowd of families from both schools, followed by an in-game announcement of his resignation and a decision not to resume coaching responsibilities, are inconsistent with the standards we expect from those entrusted to lead our student athletes,” Mr. Forker added, according to Patch.

There will not be an interim coach appointed for the team, with the remaining members of the staff coaching the players for the remainder of the year.

Between 2022 when he was hired and his sudden resignation, Mr. Panapada went 16-31, according to Connecticut Insider.
