OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said business school graduates should become more innovative with their career choices since artificial intelligence is handling menial tasks once handled by people.

Mr. Altman told the Stanford Graduate School of Business that new professionals first need to stop looking for jobs that were formerly en vogue.

“My chronic disappointment with MBA students is that they always want to go do the thing that was cool five years ago rather than try something new,” he said, according to Fortune.

“I think this is a great time to go do the new thing,” Mr. Altman said.

Mr. Altman urged the students to think more entrepreneurially, since the multi-faceted nature of AI has lowered the barrier to running a small business.

He also said the constantly shifting business landscape gives the incoming professionals plenty of opportunities to make their mark in developing industries.

Ideally, he said, the new companies that crop up in the wake up OpenAI’s work are “much bigger, and I hope, more important than OpenAI.”

“If you’re heading into the world right now to work on something, I think you want to start your career at a time of the greatest change, when the playing field is most open,” the AI mogul said.
