Thru 3: Scoreless (plus a makeup date announced)

Looks like we’re in for another solid effort from the Nats’ starting pitcher. At least through three innings.

John Lannan has kept the Braves off the scoreboard so far, despite allowing a couple of singles, a walk and some deep fly balls. This, of course, is Lannan’s specialty. He loves to get himself into trouble and then pitch his way out of it. He’s done it tonight by allowing leadoff singles in the first and second but battling back to prevent the runners from scoring.

The Nats have put only two men on base against Atlanta’s Jair Jurrjens: a Nick Johnson single in the first and a Josh Willingham walk in the second. Not much doing so far, though. Those deep counts that have been a staple the last few days aren’t around tonight. Jurrjens is cruising along.

In other news, the Nationals have announced a makeup date for last Wednesday’s rainout against the Phillies. The two teams will now play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, May 16. Those who had tickets to the postponed game can use them for the same seat at the first game of the doubleheader (first pitch 1:05 p.m.). The nightcap will be the originally scheduled 7:05 p.m. game. Separate tickets are required for both games.
